Launched by International Dance Council (IDC) in 1982, the World Dance Day (April 29) has become a global celebration which highlights the beauty of this Art in all its manifestations. The council declared that ‘Dance and Spirituality’ was the theme for the 2019 edition of the event. Alliance Française de Pune enthusiastically participated in the three-day long series of events organised by Kalachhaya and IAPAR (Indian Centre of ITI) to commemorate the occasion from Apr 26 to 28 at the Kalachhaya Cultural Centre.

Commenting on World Dance Day, the choreographer Marzi Pestonji was happy to note that the event had grown in stature over the years. For him, it represented the opportunity to see, create, and explore new styles whilst making a difference through dance. Ashley Lobo (choreographer) added that the day was important as it brought people together to celebrate the art form. Dancer Melvin Louis signed off by stating that dancing was the best way to rejuvenate and a lot of young enthusiasts were pursuing it as a serious vocation.
