The French photographer, art curator, and visual project manager Ingrid Chiron recently presented an exhibition of her photographs entitled Here and There, Ici et Là-bas at Alliance Française de Katmandou. Prepared by the AF Kathmandu Team and inaugurated on May 9, the exhibition attracted large crowds of enthused visitors right up to the closing day on May 24. Both the opening and closing nights were accompanied by groovy performances by the band Kutumba.

Based in Nepal since 1998, Ingrid is passionate about art, images, and writing. Through her work, she aims to create bridges between different artistic disciplines. As an exhibition, Here and There bridges two vastly different places – we travel between Belle Île (a French island on the Brittany coast where the artist was born) and the rugged, mountain-dotted country of Nepal. The photographs are the result of several years of hard work and exist at the crossroads of two different countries, two different cultures, and two different landscapes. The viewer is taken on a walk down memory lane and revisits the memories of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal which is still embedded in the popular consciouness.

The Nepali-band Kutumba provided the perfect accompaniment to Ingrid’s work. 2019 marks the 15th anniversary of the group which is known for its unique soundscape of traditional Nepalese music mixed with contemporary sounds and catchy melodies. Their distinctive mix of Nepali folk instruments and foot-tapping tunes delighted the audience and brought an apt-end to a remarkable exhibition.
