AF Ahmedabad Launches Surat Centre with Auro University

Alliance Francaise d’Ahmedabad recently inaugurated its Surat Center in collaboration with Auro University on Aug 3, 2019. The Centre is located within the premises of Auro University and will offer French language Classes along with Cultural Activities to the denizens of this crucial port city. It will also initiate partnerships between French and Indian universities for Academic and Student Exchange. The inauguration marks the beginning of a new chapter in the 300-year old history of Indo-French relations which dates back to the arrival of the French in Surat back in the 17th Century.

The inauguration took place in the presence of Gaël de Kerguenec (Director, Alliance Francaise d’Ahmedabad) and Prof. Avadhesh Kumar Singh (Vice Chancellor, Auro University). The ceremony was also graced by several VIPs and members of the royal family from the region including His Highness, the Nawab of Sachin and the Prince of Sachin whose family members have previously studied in Auro. Prince Manvendra Gohil of Rajpipla, an Advisory Committee Member of Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad, was also present. Following the Inauguration Ceremony, Sujit Nair (Campus France Executive in Gujarat from the French Institute in India) conducted a Pre-departure session for students in Surat who will pursue their higher education in France this year. He also initiated the signing of an MoU between Auro and College de Paris.

The Surat Center of Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad is the keystone of Espace France which will be a collaboration between the French Embassy in India and the French Institute in India with Auro University. Espace France will provide detailed information about studies in France, French Education, and Culture. This will be the beginning of a series of collaborations in Surat which the Alliance Francaise will bring forth to this rapidly growing Indian Smart-City. AF Ahmedabad has been present in Gujarat since 1981 and has worked tirelessly to strengthen Franco-Indian relations. The Current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, happens to be its 11th member.
