Ozma

OZMA was born as a trio (Adrien Dennefeld – Guitar, Edouard Séro-Guillaume – E-Bass, Stéphane Scharlé – Drums) in 2001 in eastern France and became a quintet in 2004 with the arrival of David Florsch – Saxophones and Guillaume Nuss – Trombone. The members of the band grew up musically together through a common passion for jazz and jam sessions. They developed personal compositions, without any stylistic frontier, and always searched for a more organic and spontaneous sound. The urban side of their music provides a melting-pot of non-conformism and astonishing fun, as an art of interplay inside of a captivating universe.
In 2006 the quintet got the first prize at the National Jazz Competition Jazz A la Défense in Paris. Since then, the band played over 120 concerts across Europe, Africa and Asia. OZMA has released two albums produced by the French label «Juste une Trace»: ELECTRIC TAXI LAND (2007) and STRANGE TRAFFIC (2009).

OZMA’s originality?
A searching spirit, a universe of sonic interactions, and truly melodic compositions. On one hand OZMA seems to be a mutant jazz band, on the other, an electric jungle of sounds, a group of nowadays, working within the heritage of rock, jazz, and experimental musics. John Hollenbeck, Dave Holland, Medeski, Miles Davis, Cinematic Orchestra are never far away, like echoes of a climate that drives the listener far away from his seat. Riffs, counterpoints, explosions of sound… OZMA develops itself by drawing a precise art line, researching sensitive potentials and producing evocative energy. Living spaces of freedom, interactions, narrative developments and climates of fun… a whole program for a singular jazz show!
