For all you music lovers, the Alliance Française network has brought a young French band of electronic, funk and disco to India. The band, L’Impératrice, will be touring seven major cities in the country, enthralling audiences at live concerts and performances. Come, groove to their tunes!

L'Impératrice

L'Impératrice

L’Impératrice is a band, of young musicians from Paris, which was formed in 2012. With 5 band members, it can be seen as a re-embodiment of the French Electronic scene of the 90’s. They compose music which is a unique mixture of electro and funk, disco and cosmic that has been influenced by the music of the 70’s and 80’s. Makes them quite original, doesn’t it? Funk underplays melody and harmony and brings a strong rhythmic groove of electric bass and drums to the foreground. This mélange of music is what makes their songs melodious, especially when they’re performing live! They use rare ’70s and ’80s analog gear, like Moog and Juno synthesizers. however this equipment is too fragile to be brought to India and so, they’ll be using “modern stuff”.
Dripping with raw soul, funk, disco, jazz and of course electro they emit an aural casual coolness that seems to be unanimous with most French electronica. They take the name of L’impératrice or the Empress who is portrayed as cruel and exigent, a sensual symbol of power and royalty. She is described as-
“L’Impératrice (The Empress) is beautiful and cruel. Maybe not even real, a Venus with graceful movements, whose haughty looks recall the burning heat of summer. She rules the groove and the hearts, and you will bow to her desire.

When quizzed about what they’ll be playing here, Charles de Boisseguin, the founder of the band said, ‘What you’ll hear is rooted in mid-70’s black disco to late 90’s french house, with a slice of hip hop. Our set is also a big travel across synth pop history, exploring original soundtracks from John Carpenter, François de Roubaix, Ennio Morricone or Daft Punk. A mash-up made for dancing, which is full of images.’

L’Impératrice will also be promoting their 2nd EP called “Sonate Pacifique” which is due for release in France following their tour in India. They will be thus performing from this album, exclusively for the Indian audience. Indian fans of funk, electronic, disco are definitely in for a treat. This will be a fresh and exciting addition to the Indian tour calendar, and hard to miss out on.
