Maleva (23) had participated in a blurb-writing workshop at the Alliance Française conducted by the former Director of Courses Alexandra Dourver after which she decided to participate in the contest. She says she had fun at the workshop and did not actually pay attention to the competition. She has won a two-week all expense paid language training course in France. She says that her 1200-word blurb was about embracing one’s own complexities without being too hard on oneself. Maleva says that she never expected to receive the first prize and was pleasantly surprised when she received a mail informing her of the same. An ex-student of Mt. Carmel College, she studied Communication, French and History and loves French cuisine. She says that she loves the imagery that the French language offers and finds it very descriptive. She gives the example of pomme de terre, literally translated as ‘apple of the earth’ and pain perdu ‘lost bread’ to illustrate her point. The competition was organized to celebrate International Francophonie week from 15th to 23rd March.
