It isn’t easy to create magic on screen! It takes the perfect harmony of an actor’s performance, sound, lighting, framing and editing amongst other factors to create that special moment. To acquaint people with the intricacies of the process and to help them create their own short films, Alliance Française du Bengale will be organising the second edition of the Filmmaking workshop from November 1, 2017 to December 8, 2017. Unlike the first iteration of the workshop, participants will be required to create their own 2-minute short films which can be used as part of their portfolio for film schools, film festivals or even residencies. All the films thus created will be screened on Friday Dec 8, 2017.

Bengale - Filmmaking Workshop

During the course of the five-day workshop, participants will be encouraged to use any medium of their choice – including smartphones, cameras, photo montages and even animation – to create their film. Each weekly session will focus on a specific aspect of the craft – from finding inspiration and writing scripts to cinematography, shooting the film, the basics of editing and finally marketing the finished product. The goal is to demystify the art of filmmaking for everyone and to master the craft of visual storytelling.

The 2017 edition of the Filmmaking workshop will be conducted by Tinni Bhattacharya whose 2013 short film ‘The (in)Dispensables‘ was screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival and the Delhi International Film Festival. As a film scholar, she has contributed articles to many leading newspapers in India apart from making innumerable documentaries from script to screen for ETV. She currently divides her time between working on her next script and teaching Film and Advertising as a freelance lecturer in various institutes. She also conducts workshops in Bangalore, Kolkata and Paris.
