November 18, 2017 was a momentous day which marked the culmination of months of preparation! It was on this day that the 2017-18 iteration of Bonjour India was inaugurated with much pomp at Ganesh Pol in Amber Fort at Jaipur. The inuaguration was graced by Jean-Yves Le Drian (Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France), Shri Prakash Javadekar (Hon’ble Minister of Human Resource Development), and Smt. Vasundhara Raje (Hon’ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan). There was a palpable sense of excitement in the air as the 37-city mega-project which will see more than 100 events being organised across the length and breadth of the country from Nov 2017 to Feb 2018 was officially launched.

On the day of the inauguration, guests had the rare pleasure of an evening with two of France’s most renowned artists – Video painter Xavier de Richemont and Chef Alain Passard. The two presented unique creations from their domains that have been produced from their collaborations with India. BHARGAL©, a monumental 20-minute video painting, was specially developed by Xavier de Richemont for the grand occasion. This work of art tells the story of India and France as seen by the artist. The three-Michelin-star Chef Alain Passard, along with Indian chefs from Fairmont, had prepared a special vegetarian menu with locally-sourced biodynamic vegetables from Indian farms which was widely appreciated.

BHARGAL© is now available on Xavier de Richemont’s YouTube channel and can be seen here:

The current edition marks the third iteration of Bonjour India and is being organised by CulturesFrance in collaboration with the French Embassy in India. Produced by Teamwork, Bonjour India will celebrate Indo-French friendship and cooperation. Within this framework, a series of exhibitions, concerts, literary meetings, film festivals, debates, conferences and food festivals are being organised along with several economic, educational and scientific exchanges across 20 Indian states and Union territories. The previous two editions of Bonjour India were in 2009 and 2013 respectively.
