Within the framework of the initiative Engaging with inequalities, the Gurgaon centre of Alliance Française de Delhi has consciously been looking at different aspects of exclusions in practice. The goal is to find creative ways of engaging with these tendencies by bringing together literature, music, performance, visual art, and academic work on the same platform. Keeping this goal in mind, the second edition of Engaging with inequalities was launched on Dec 1, 2018 in the Gurgaon centre.

The participating artists included Kumar HG, Ela Mukherjee, Iranna GR, Manjunath Kamath, Mudita Bhandari, Mithu Sen, Pooja Iranna, Qamar Dagar, Sumedh Rajendran, and Vibha Galhotra.

A special highlight of the opening night was the première of the documentary Small City Dreaming which traces the working lives of young people in small cities in India and Indonesia. The linkages are explored through the work trajectories of three characters: Oscar in Kupang (Eastern Indonesia), Bhaagchand in Kishangarh (Rajasthan, India), and Latifah in Semarang Regency (Central Java, Indonesia). This film was originally made by Amit Mahanti and Mukta Naik as part of a collaborative research project by the Centre for Policy Research and JustJobs Network

Even though the exhibit will continue to remain open for public viewing till Dec 24, 2018, it has already drawn large crowds and provided much food for thought for the denizens of Gurgaon.
