Festival of France

The exhibition France Heritage is a group photography exhibition showcasing works by Anay Mann, Gigi Scaria, Rishi Singhal, Serena Chopra, Isabel Saij and Jean-Pierre Dubois is now on in the city of Bangalore. Each artist has a very unique style, but together, the works highlight the importance of architecture in defining one’s cultural identity. The pictures depict not only the splendour of French architecture in India, but also the ravages of time on these beautiful buildings. France Heritage has been well received in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pondicherry, and will be on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore until 28th April, 2013.

As part of the Bonjour India Festival 2013, Alliance Française de Bangalore in collaboration with Institut Français in India and NGMA, Bangalore inaugurated the exhibition on 18th April in the city, which coincidentally was World Heritage Day. The guests of honour included M Eric Lavertu, Consul General of France in Karnataka, Mr. Chiranjiv Singh, president of AFB, M Philippe Gasparini, director AFB and Mr. Sudhakar Rao, chairman of the Advisory Board, NGMA, Bangalore.
NGMA has also hosted several outreach programmes during the course of this exhibition including a film screening, a painting competition for children and a gallery tour with photographer and curator of France Heritage, Anay Mann. Children aged 7-14 unleashed their creativity at the painting contest during the weekend.
They painted monuments, villages and landscapes in bright hues using wax crayons, color pencils and even water colors. Results were announced soon after and prizes were distributed to the best three students. The garden and the fountains added a serene and pleasant ambiance to the young creative minds. A few of the teachers from Alliance Française visited the gallery along with their students, who enjoyed themselves greatly and also participated in a quiz conceived by the Alliance Française.

A colorful and warm welcome addition to the NGMA landscape are the huge photo prints of Chandernagore. France Heritage will be on display at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Bangalore from 10am to 5pm until Sunday, 28th September.
