On Saturday 8th November, Mumbai will sway to the psychedelic beats of the renowned DJ Oof! The widely anticipated event is being conducted in BlueFrog thanks to a collaboration between Alliance Française de Bombay, Novotel Juhu Mumbai, Institut Français and the French Embassy in India.

A self-confessed art, music, film and fashion freak, Jaïs Frédéric Elalouf – or DJ Oof as he prefers to call himself – is the french pioneer of DVJ shows. Oof specialises in creating “found footage movies” wherein video clips and sounds are synched to deliver an ethereal musical experience. Oof employs highly distorted and surreal visuals, sound effects and reverberation along with bright colors and animation to evoke a visceral response from the listener.

An “audiovisual DJ director” of repute, Oof has directed over 30 videos, compiled 12 mix-tapes, produced 10 original tracks and performed in over 400 gigs in some of the most renowned museums, film and music festivals around the world including the Mashup Festival, the Festival Pigalle and at the Musée de la Maison Rouge. For his album Cinemix – launched by Universal Jazz in 2003 – Oof remixed the original scores of french films by stalwarts like Serge Gainsbourg and Ennio Morricone. He also revisited the works of the composers François de Roubaix, Antoine Duhamel, Charles Dumont, Michel Magne and Jean-Claude Vannier. In 2012, he introduced conceptual nights titled les Nuits Ouf in partnership with Centquatre and launched Danse Conscious – a critically-acclaimed audiovisual show. Driven by the desire to introduce new generations to the hippie-psychedelic counter culture of the late 60s, Oof curated and exhibited several rare and detailed works of art at countless galleries including the prestigious Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Currently, Oof composes dreamy-electro-pop music under the moniker Zzouf (with Zero dB) or as Lunivers (with Lena Kaufman). He is also the founder of pingpong.fr, a cultural marketing agency which has been taking care of Ninja Tune since 1998 in France and which has produced over 160 events in Paris since 1997. Future projects include a transmedia movie called Le Bruit Invisible – a surreal comedy based on strange foley sounds. Indeed, we look forward to this versatile artist’s upcoming performance in Mumbai!

DJ Oof’s performance in Mumbai is part of a whirlwind tour which will start in Kathmandu at the Planet Nepal Festival on November 1 and culminate in Trivandrum on November 15. He will also be performing in Chandigarh, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore on November 5, 7, 11 and 14 respectively.
