Like the other Alliances in the India-Nepal network, Alliance Française de Bhopal regular supports artists – both seasoned and amateur – by providing them a reputed platform for their works. This month, the AF Bhopal gallery gave voice to the cause of conservation by hosting an exhibition on the mighty tigers. Entitled The Tiger Speaks, the exhibition was opened to the general public on March 16 within the framework of Francophonie celebrations and was an extentsion of  AF Bhopal‘s initiatives for marking World Wildlife Day in March.

The Tiger Speaks consists of works by renowned cartoonist Mr. Hariom Tiwari which draw attention to this endangered species. The exhibition has a collection of about 50 cartoon sketches that depict the plight of tigers in a satirical way. In one picture, tigers can be seen drinking bottled water in order to avoid consuming dirty river water whilst another sketch depicts them as an exhibit in a museum as they have gone extinct. These images make visitors introspect about the impact of humanity on the environment.

The political cartoonist, Mr. Tiwari has worked with many national newspapers and magazines throughout his career and has been mentored by celebrated cartoonist Late Mr. R K Laxman. According to him, the goal of a cartoonist is not just to create humour but also to give voice to those who cannot speak. His exhibition drew large crowds and was well appreciated by the attendees. The Tiger Speaks remained on view till March 30, 2018.
