This monsoon, Alliance Française de Bombay alongside ten partners is offering a number of workshops, most of them free, on subjects of art and culture ranging from music and dance to baking, wine-tasting and theatre.

The wet, rainy months of July and August are poised to inundate the public with a deluge of interesting projects, through the precipitation of several delightfully educational workshops, which will encompass seven distinctly creative themes. Opening with its initial programme on 15 July 2014 with an interactive session on ‘Guitars’, these monsoon projects will include other topics too, such as Graffiti, Bakery, Dance, Graphic novel (comics), Wine-Tasting and Theatre. This will undoubtedly be a wonderful opportunity for enthusiasts to take part in and experience a wide spectrum of short courses, most of them without charge, virtually spanning the entire monsoon season. The final and concluding workshop on Graphic Novels will be held on 22 August 2014. Many partners were united in the process of creating this project, the names of whom can be found at the bottom of the article.

To acquaint the public with the various programmes being offered, here is a brief glimpse: The Guitar workshop was conducted in partnership with the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival and Competition and included an interactive session together with a performance with Theophilus Benjamin and Veda Aggarwal. Next, the Graffiti workshop at the Hive imparted the techniques of drawing and inscriptions in public spaces. Subsequently, the Bakery workshop allowed the people who attended it to pride yourself as a cordon-bleu by imbibing the secrets of cupcakes in this workshop to be conducted at Sofitel. The workshops to come in August include the following: the Theatre workshop will involve a three day session in association with the Drama School of Mumbai where your histrionic abilities will come to the fore. Then, the Dance workshop will induce you to wear your dancing shoes and move your body to the tunes of this programme, conducted in partnership with The Danceworx Company. The Wine Tasting workshop is definitely not to be missed. If you are an adult over 21 years, you can turn into a connoisseur by developing your wine tasting faculties. Take a swig by sampling le Chenin Blanc and the red Cabernet Sauvignon with Fratelli wines. Finally, the concluding Graphic Novel Workshop will enable you to make your own mini-comic strips while exploring the world of comics.

Highly talented and experienced professionals have been specially invited to host these programmes with an intent to familiarize their fans and supporters with their skills, expertise and knowledge. Registered participants will definitely derive ample benefit from the awareness, understanding and know-how that these brilliant boffins are ready to share with them. These workshops have been set in different venues across the city of Mumbai and prospective applicants are advised to put their names down with the cultural coordinator at the Alliance Française de Bombay at the earliest, so as to gain the most from these educative and enjoyable programmes.
