Young Talent Program at AF Bangalore
Along with being the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru can be also considered as an up-and-coming artistic hub. Indeed, many young artists are attempting to attract attention to their prodigious work in this metropolitan city. In the wake of its mission to promote culture, Alliance Française de Bangalore has decided to extend a helping hand to these creative geniuses by creating a new project called the Young Talent Program.
Started in April 2015, the Young Talent Program is a project that aims to promote the local visual artists of the city through a unique platform that showcases seven of the most promising young artists in each Young Talent Program cycle. Curated by Franck Barthélémy, Balan Nambiar and Ravi Cavale, the program intends to support a few selected artists and to diffuse their work by giving them a platform to express their art.
To meet the conditions of application to get shortlisted by the jury, the artist must fulfil three criteria – they must be under 30 years old, must not have had any solo exhibitions in a gallery in India, and must be living in Bangalore for at least a year. Till date, the program has successfully hosted 6 artists from different fields of visual arts including painters (Deepak K. and Prasad KV), sketch artists (Saleem Shoyab), photographers (Siddarth Sadashiv), illustrators (Simon Lamouret) and currently a fashion designer (Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama).
Each of these artists is guided by the jury members for their first solo show. After the inaugural evening which includes a gathering of the artist’s friends, art amateurs and professionals from the art world, the work of the artist is showcased for a period of three weeks. Many students and visitors come regularly to Alliance Française de Bangalore. Hence, the exhibition is accessible to the general public.
At the end of the cycle of 7 exhibitions, AF Bangalore will launch a catalogue bringing together the 7 artists and the journey of the program. This catalogue will be distributed to the Alliance Française network in India as well as important AFs in the world, along with renowned galleries, libraries, research institutes and cultural centres.
