The multi-faceted and ultra-gifted French cellist Christian-Pierre La Marca is one of the most sought after cellists of his generation. His creative genius, exceptional talent and ingenious qualities have earned him utmost admiration from his appreciative audiences as well as his critics. He shall be passing through multiple cities in South Asia in the latter half of September this year.

Christian-Pierre La Marca

Christian-Pierre La Marca was born in 1983 and was initiated into learning music with the piano and the cello at the ‘Conservatoire Darius Milhaud’ in Aix-en-Provence, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of Southern France. He devotedly pursued his lessons in music and before long, was given access to the ‘Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris‘, a place where he blossomed and perfected his art. Merely thirty years old, this exceptional cellist, has already performed practically throughout the world, winning the hearts of the public through an eclectic repertoire of romantic representations ranging from baroque to contemporary music. His first album ‘L’heure Exquise’, an anthology of French music, received immense international acclaim when it was introduced to the public in 2011. The release of the complete Bach Solo Cello Suites was equally successful in 2013. This year, Deutsche Grammophon, the famous German classical record label, will feature him on their next album with Patricia Petitbon. Apart from that, Sony Classical has made him an exclusive artist for their company.

A passionate cellist

In a short span of a few years, Christain has managed to attract global attention by virtue of his deep obsession for excellence in his renditions combined with his innate versatility.  He has collaborated with many high profile artists from whom he drew and still continues to draw inspiration. A founding member of the ‘Trio Dali’, Christian has also been a lauréate and recipient of numerous awards at international competitions. Having been an assistant professor at the ‘Royal Academy of Music‘ in London for three years, he has involved himself in scores of projects as a soloist as well as a chamber musician attracting global admiration and propelling his musical career to soar immeasurably.  This young artist has also endeavoured to defend, support and endorse contemporary music and has opened his heart to classical music, focussing on younger audiences or those coping with social difficulties.

Currently artist-in-residence at the ‘Singer-Polignac Foundation‘ in Paris, Christian plays a beautiful cello ‘The Vaslin‘ made in 1725 by Antonio Stradivari. This instrument has been graciously loaned to him by ‘LVMH, Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton‘.

The Embassy of France in India has, in addition, organised a concert tour of Christian-Pierre La Marca entitled “Bach’s Cello Tour“. The tour will pass through the following places during the last two weeks of September, 2014 :
