Sophie Benini Pietromarchi, a Franco-Italian artist, author and illustrator of children’s books will be visiting Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai between 23rd August and 6th September, 2014 for workshops and festivals. Selected for the national primary education in Mexico, her books have gained wide recognition worldwide.

Sophie Benini Pietromarchi

Sophie Benini Pietromarchi is a Franco-Italian artist and one of the authors and illustrators of children’s books. Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1965, she grew up and studied in Paris. After high school, she obtained a degree in graphic design and a BA and MA degree in literature at the University of Florence with a thesis on Charles Perrault’s Fables. Sophie has conducted workshops at international festivals such as the Edinburgh International Book Festival, and in various venues such as schools, public libraries and museums. Some of her works as an illustrator includes collaborations with best-selling authors. In India, she has published books with the multi-award winning publisher Tara Publishing and the Mexican Department of Education selected the Spanish edition of the Book Book to be part of their national primary school curriculum for school libraries. Sophie’s books have been, in addition, published in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Israel, Switzerland, India and China.

The Book Office of the Institut Français en Inde and Embassy of France in India has invited Sophie Benini Pietromarchi to take part in the Jumpstart Festival organised in New Delhi on 25th and 26th August 2014 and in Bangalore on 28th August, apart from her visit to Tara Books in Chennai from 31st August to 6th September. At Delhi, she will lead a workshop co-organized by the French Book Office, Tara Books and Oxford Bookstore, for children aged 7 to 12 (on registration) entitled “You and your favourite colour”. She then intends to visit the Jumpstart Festival from 25th August and 26th August at the India International Centre in Delhi on 25 August where she will take part in a panel discussion and an Illustrator’s Masterclass on 26 August. Following this, she will visit the Jumpstart Festival at Goethe Institut, Max Muller Bhavan, Bangalore for another panel discussion on 26 August and an Illustrator’s Masterclass on 28th August. She will also conduct a workshop on 30th August at Hippocampus, Bangalore entitled “You and your favorite colour”, co-organised by the French Book Office, Tara Books, the Alliance Française de Bangalore and Hippocampus. Finally, she will visit Chennai from 31st August to 6th September, received by her publisher, Tara Books.
