The famous composer George Jacob Gershwin claimed that life, like jazz, is best when one improvises – a concept that is acutely embodied by the Lorenzo Naccarato Trio! The trio focuses on what they call kinematic jazz in the sense that the notion of movement is central to their musical exploration. The band was founded in 2012 and is composed of Lorenzo Naccarato (piano), Adrien Rodriguez (double bass) and Benjamin Naud (drums). They were quickly noticed in the jazz scene at Toulouse and soon launched themselves into music festivals where they were warmly welcomed by audiences. The prodigious musicians are currently on tour in India thanks to a series of performances piloted by Alliance Française de Madras in Chennai (Sep 15), Bangalore (Sept 17), Ahmedabad (Sept 19), Pune (Sept 21), and Delhi (Sept 23). The tour in India was organised with the support of DGAF India-NepalInstitut Français (India) and Oman Air as Airline Partner. The performance in Chennai was supported by Saint-Gobain as AFM Gold Sponsor, The Park (Chennai) as Hospitality Partner and Eventjini.com as Online Partner.

After studying the classical piano for ten years, Lorenzo began studying musicology at a university in Toulouse in 2007. Specialising in Jazz and improv music, he took part in Master classes under Laurent Cugny, Franck Avitabile, Kenny Barron, Enrico Pieranunzi and Claude Tchamitchian, who had a determining influence on his approach to composition and group work. Moved by the works of the pianist Rubén González and later by Bebo Valdés amongst others, he started playing pieces that were not from the classical repertoire and embraced improvisation. Benjamin followed a Classical curriculum in Musicology in Poitiers and is very fond of South-American and, more generally, Latin music. He is the oldest of the three, has traveled extensively and played in various ensembles. Adrien’s background is a bit more unconventional. He started double bass rather late for a musician at age 19 and also plays with the local band Pauvres Martins.

In their compositions, the aesthetics of the Lorenzo Naccarato Trio are often defined as chiselled and fluid. The Trio won the Jazz festival in Oloron in 2015 and the Jazz festival at Saint-Germain-des-Près, Paris in 2013. They were finalists twice at the Jazz festivals in Baie and Vannes. The first album Lorenzo Naccarato trio came out on March 11, 2016 under the label LABORIE JAZZ. Jazz Magazine describes the band as having a “real knack for construction and dramaturgy”. Lorenzo’s affinity for accuracy and precision is apparent in his compositions for the trio. “I want my music to be legible, I want to be understood. I’ve always tried to achieve clarity in my work”, he once said in an interview with Le Brigadier. Small wonder then that the crowds have been going wild for their performances!
