Every year, La nuit des idées or the Night of Ideas gives people the opportunity to discover the latest developments in Knowledge and Arts, to interact with people who are making cutting-edge contributions to their respective fields, and to discuss the primary concerns of our day and age. The 2019 edition of La nuit des idées took place on Jan 31, 2019 around the world in the form of conferences, theatre plays, performances, screenings, and concerts with a special focus on the theme Facing Our TimeAlliance Française de Pune enthusiastically participated in the same by organising a Panel Discussion on the same theme as the Closing Event of Prakalp Pune Festival in partnership with the French Institute in India and TIFA Working Studios.

facing our time

The panelists for the discussion included Sanskriti Menon (Senior Programme Director, Urban Programmes at the Centre for Environment Education), Jean Pierre Serna (Venezuelan Architect), Anil Zankar (Alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India and Recipient of two national awards), and Prajakta Panshikar-Divekar (Trained Anthropologist and Demographer). The session was moderated by Pushkar Sohoni (Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune). For La nuit des idées, the discussion primarily focussed on three issues – contemporary events and lucidity, commitment to tackling the challenges of our time, and the perception of time and its transformations.

Prakalp Pune provided an ideal platform for La nuit des idées as the festical symbolises the pursuit to activate the city of Pune and to provoke citywide cultural and creative discourse. Being a creative community-centric venture, the goal is to archive and study the Historic while ‘projecting’ the Contemporary. The project is a reimagining of the various cultural aspects of the city by creating, showcasing and archiving work about the locale. The programming is developed in collaboration with local artists, cultural influencers, and experts to engage with the citizens of Pune in a truly immersive experience of the city.
