And the movie is finally here !  The Artist will be releasing on 24th February 2012 throughout India.

The Artist

The Artist

The movie which was screened at the Mumbai International Film Festival in association with the Film & Television Department of the French Consulate and Unifrance films, received an amazing response; hordes of people had to return back due to unavailability of seats. The commercial release of this movie will be a great opportunity for those who missed its screening by MAMI in October 2011. The movie will be distributed in India by Tanweer Films.

Directed by Michael Hazanavicius, the film depicts the golden era of silent films from 1927 – 1932.  Jean Dujardin portrays George Valentin, a Hollywood star who helps Peppy Miller, an aspiring actress played by Bérénice Béjo to become a rising star. However the silent era soon gives way to the talkies and Valentin’s stardom starts to fade. The movie, beautifully portrayed in black and white, narrates the evolution of cinema along with its stars.

After bagging seven BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) awards, including Best Direction, Best Actor (Male) and Best Original Screenplay and three Golden Globe Awards, The Artist has also gained ten nominations for Oscars. It has also been nominated for César Awards, which is the French equivalent of Oscars, in ten categories including Best Film, Best Direction, Best Writing-Original, Best Actor and Best Actress. Moreover, the film has also been collecting awards at various International film festivals including the Spanish Goya awards.

The story being universal, will not fail to attract the Indian audiences. A fading actor of the yesteryears and a competing rising star has been a theme of many  Indian movies. Also its global presence has generated curiosity amongst the Indians, awakening a keen interest to watch the movie.

The wait is finally over and The Artist will soon shine all across the Indian theatres.
