Georges Rousse, artist and photographer, will give a lecture about  Shared Utopia on Monday, 20th January, 2014 at 6:30 pm at The Museum Plaza, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum

Georges Rousse began making installations in the types of abandoned or derelict buildings that have long held an attraction for him creating ephemeral, one-of-a-kind artworks by transforming these sites into pictorial spaces that are visible only in his photographs. It was his discovery of Land Art and Malevich’s Black Square on a White Ground that set him on his current trajectory that explores the relationship of painting to space.  Georges Rousse’s presentation will discuss his works, which call upon painting, design, sculpture and architectural construction to effect a transformation in the building. It will trace his process, from an empty space and drawings to a photographic work, which will be the lasting impression of the place and a document to its poetic metamorphosis. Georges Rousse is in India for a project with an NGO that aims to transform a space in the Shivaji Nagar slum with his signature artwork. Read this article of Midday.
